Financial Controller – Otley – SME

This is a number 2 Financial Controller position, working closely with the FD and overseeing a small team of a profitable and ambitious, privately-owned SME based in the Otley area of North West Leeds.
The role will take overall responsibility for managing the day to day accounting operations, playing a key role in leading and developing the finance team. Alongside this, the FC will be responsible for managing the audit, year end and producing the statutory accounts for one division and assisting the Finance Manager with the management accounts preparation.
The role will be hands on, varied and offer exposure to both financial and management accounts within a fast paced and busy working environment.
***The role would be ideally suited to someone ACA/ACCA qualified looking for their 2nd or 3rd move from practice into an SME FC/Head of Finance role within a fast paced SME***
The key duties of the role will include:
- Managing all day to day accounting operations.
- Coordinating the preparation of budget and financial forecasting and reporting any variances alongside the Business Partnership role.
- Preparing and publishing all monthly financial statements.
- Creating reports (annual and monthly) which identifies results, trends and forecasts.
- Ensuring all transactions are recorded, filed and reported properly.
- Making sure reporting meets compliant standards with statutory law and financial regulations.
- Documenting business processes and accounting policies to maintain internal controls.
- Streamlining and improving all operations and accounting systems.
- Coordinating the management of cash flow, debt and debt collection.
- Supervising and managing financial department staff
- Overseeing the audit process and liaising with external personnel where required.
- Support the business with the financial strategy and decision-making processes
- Helping the FD in presenting reports to board members, senior executives, and board members.
The successful candidate will:
- Be ACA/ACCA/CIMA Qualified – Essential
- Have previous experience in audit/practice – Desirable
- Have strong technical and management accounts knowledge – Essential
- Have previous experience of managing a team – Desirable
